On April 12, 2012, SimonsVoss delivered its millionth digital locking cylinder to Trinity Hall, a prestigious College of Cambridge University. During a ceremonial handover, SimonsVoss CEO Hans-Gernot Illig also presented an original cylinder embedded in clear acrylic to the college's bursar, Paul ffolkes Davis, observed by the Senior Tutor, Dr Nick Bampos and the Junior Bursar, Glen Sharp. The millionth digital cylinder produced by SimonsVoss was also installed during the ceremony.

Founded in 1350, Trinity Hall is the fifth oldest of the university's thirty-one constituent colleges. These independent, largely self-governed institutions are responsible for organising accommodation and tuition for students that the colleges themselves have selected and accepted. Trinity Hall decided to install a completely networked digital locking and access control system with an accumulated total of 1,300 SimonsVoss digital locking cylinders and Smart Handles, in order to improve security at the college using this future-proof system. The college officers also wanted to reduce the administrative workload for the access control system, while retaining the simplicity of a mechanical key concept. Trinity Hall uses MIFARE® ID cards, just like the rest of the university.

Headed by Glen Sharp, Junior Bursar and Russell Waller, Head of Buildings and Services, the Trinity Hall team was impressed by the exceptionally user-friendly design of SimonsVoss systems and the state-of-the-art technical solution proposed, in order to overcome such a complex, challenging task. The deal was also clinched thanks to the system's attractive design, which blends perfectly with the aesthetics of the historic building. Easy installation of the elegant Smart Handles also played a particularly decisive role in this respect. Thanks to the patented SimonsVoss snap-in system, door fittings are perfectly secured into position with a single screw, without the need for additional drilling and risk of damaging especially historic doors.

The network-compatible, digital locking cylinders and Smart Handles perform access control tasks, including event logging. The system also features functions such as time zone control, event management and door monitoring. Integrated button cells batteries generate high product efficiency, providing enough power to achieve up to 150,000 lock operations.
